French President François Hollande greets Elizabeth Nock ( 4 Blue) and Luke Singer ( 5 Blue) on his official visit to San
Francisco City Hall on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
Students Meet and Greet the President of France
For the first time since a French President visited San Francisco (François Mitterrand, 30 years ago), President François Hollande came to San Francisco to meet the main political and economic influencers under the umbrella of “entrepreneurship and innovation.” Along with our francophone peer schools in the Bay, a group of twelve French American students
greeted President Hollande at the City Hall on February
12, 2014, waving the flags of France, the U.S., California, and San Francisco.
At approximately noon two of those students, Elizabeth Nock and Luke Singer, had the opportunity to
introduce the French President before he was awarded
the key to the city by San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee.
In addition, the Élysée Palace approved our offer to
have two International High School students live-tweet
the presidential visit to San Francisco. Pauline Rigo and
Nick Thayer, better known as @PaulineetNick on Twitter,
served as official journalists and had exclusive access in
the Presidential Convoy as they reported the day’s activi-
ties “in the eyes of Hollande.” The duo were able to
catch the attention of both English- and French-speaking
communities through their bilingual commentary and
delivered non-stop highlights in real time for the dura-
tion of the President’s visit. For their impressive journal-
ism, the two students garnered media attention from San
Francisco all the way to France.
